Previously known as Buy.com, Rakuten boasts more than 17 million products with low prices every day, and is ranked in the top 3 e-commerce companies in the entire world. Products on the website are sold by local merchants but are placed on the website to sell, so that customers are purchasing from the merchants and not just the internet. Among the millions of items offered, the pharmacy section provides items for oral care, health monitoring, baby and child care, health care, first aid, and family planning.
Thousands of these products are offered and the main page s the top selling products and their prices, which are greatly discounted. Customers can find items anywhere from regular prices all the way up to over 90% off. The website is organized in such a way that all categories of products are very easy to find, and navigation is quite easy. The left side of the website provides links to all categories such as oral care and health care, and then breaks those down into more specific sub-categories like toothbrushes, toothpastes, eye care and foot care. The hair care section features categories like shampoo, conditioner, wigs, and hair color.
Rakuten itself does not have any reviews on its site, only reviews for each product on the product page.
Trust Pilot has an average of 2.9 of 10 stars to the site. Many customers have purchased items and never received them, or have purchased items and the company canceled the order for no reason. The overall consensus is that the company has awful customer service and does not cater to the customer.
Scam Adviser rates Rakuten as a high risk site, with only a 10% trust rating. This is likely because of the ratings on Trust Pilot. Scam Adviser does realize that the site is a popular page but has overwhelmingly negative feedback.
Consumer Affairs has pages upon pages of dissatisfied customers who claim to have been scammed out of their money.
There is a shop smart section on the site where customers are rewarded with 5% back – super points.
Just casually browsing the website, the items seem to be a great deal and maybe too good to be true. The company carries just about anything you could want or need as far as a pharmacy goes, but it’s still up in the air as to whether or not the company is as great as it seems.
The overwhelmingly negative feedback is hard to ignore. Though the site offers so many great products, their lack of concern for the customers overall makes them difficult to trust. Many customers have claimed that it has been impossible for them to get in contact with an actual customer service representative with questions about their order. Pertaining to the pharmacy portion of the website specifically, there were no direct negative responses, but it may be difficult to trust a company with such bad reviews for the majority of the other categories or products. It is also concerning not knowing if there will be someone to answer any questions about a specific item. Rakuten.com receives 1 out of 5 stars.
