The International Society of Ocular Oncology was established in 2004 and is a nonprofit group that focuses on the promotion and advancement of ocular oncology. Up until as recently as the 1990’s, there were very few oncology doctors specializing in eye tumors, and patients would either see a general ophthalmologist or other specialist.
This website is a great resource for individuals with basic questions regarding ocular oncology and eye tumors. The Frequently Asked Questions portion of the website answers some of the more rudimentary questions about retinoblastoma and melanoma. There is also a portion of the website called “Library”, in which there are books suggested pertaining to more specific issues rather than ocular oncology as a whole. There is one way to contact this group, the “Contact Us” page forces open an email application.
This society has a section for individuals to apply to be a member. To be a member, one must have experience in ocular oncology. For those that do not have experience like this but do have an interest, they may apply to be an affiliate.

Isoo.org is a wonderful resource for individuals that have a dedicated interest in eye tumors and cancers. Not only is this group devoted to the advancement of the science itself, they are encouraging other individuals to learn about ocular oncology and join the society. This group is paving the way for an area in the medical field that may be overlooked most of the time, but it is just as important as anything else. They hold meetings twice a year all over the world to include many different individuals with involvement in ocular oncology. Many of the members have won awards over the years, and have accomplished great things.
This website and society would be a great resource for someone just getting into the field of ocular oncology, or those with many years of experience. The field has had rapid growth over the last 30 years but there will always be room for it to expand. This society receives 4 out of 5 stars and loses point for lack of reviews.
